Dr Sylvia Pinches is the former Curator of 78 Derngate ( 2002 – 2005 ). In post during the restoration of the house, she was responsible for the research and interpretation programme undertaken to prepare for its opening to the public in 2003. This involved extensive investigative activities to uncover and bring together all strands of the story of the house and its remodelling by Mackintosh for W.J Bassett-Lowke. It also required the coordination of expert contributors, heritage and conservation specialists and a large group of local volunteers. Dr Pinches additionally managed the newly open venue for the first two years of its public operation ( 2003 – 2005 ). She presently works as a freelance researcher, writer and lecturer.
